September 1, 2023, Dunbar hosted Loyola In a much anticipated football game in East Baltimore. With 24.9 seconds left going into halftime Loyola was leading Dunbar 21-0.
Terror and tragedy would soon erupt due to gunshots or gunfire (either or) ringing out near the "William Sugar Cane Football Field". Video footage of players laying on the field and frantic fans running scared for their lives circulated all over social media following the unfortunate incident. It has been reported that a 12 year old boy was shot and is currently in stable condition.
